Not only will Netflix air the previously-released 20-episode first season later this year, but it\u2019s also putting the final touches on the second season, which will stream sometime next year.<\/p>\n<p>The initial cancellation came as a surprise, as Paramount had already greenlit a second season and those episodes were just about finished. Then it did that recent streamer thing where it went through and deleted all of the old episodes, kicking them to the dustbin of history. That may be possible for a lesser-known IP, like the <a data-i13n=\"cpos:3;pos:1\" href=\"https:\/\/www.forbes.com\/sites\/paultassi\/2022\/08\/21\/infinity-train-creator-rips-slimy-discovery-for-hbo-max-mass-deletions\/?sh=37d83d9a608c\">criminally underrated <em>Infinity Train<\/em><\/a><em>,<\/em> but this is Star Trek. Trekkers have been conducting successful campaigns to bring back shows ever since the original series was canned back in 1969. These are the same fans, after all, that helped <em>Star Trek: The Animated Series<\/em> and <em>Star Trek: The Motion Picture<\/em> get off the ground.<\/p>\n<p><span id=\"end-legacy-contents\" \/><\/p>\n<p>So they went to work, amplifying fan engagement across various social media sites. <em>Prodigy\u2019s <\/em>creators have long held out hope for a new platform, and it looks like this optimism has finally paid off.<\/p>\n<div id=\"d944b579b92244989727c57e9880153f\" \/>\n<p><em>Star Trek: Prodigy<\/em> follows a ragtag group of alien adolescents after finding the titular spaceship. It\u2019s actually very good and acts as the perfect entry point for parents who want to introduce their kids to the ideals of Star Trek. It\u2019s also a pseudo-sequel to <em>Star Trek: Voyager,<\/em> with Kate Mulgrew reprising her role as Captain Janeway and Robert Beltran appearing as Chakotay, among other guest stars. Season two looks like it\u2019ll integrate further with <em>Voyager,<\/em> if leaks are anything to go by.<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s odd that the show will now be on Netflix, given that <a data-i13n=\"cpos:4;pos:1\" href=\"https:\/\/trekmovie.com\/2023\/07\/24\/watch-the-home-of-star-trek-promo-from-paramount-shown-at-comic-con\/\">one of Paramount\u2019s slogans is<\/a> \u201cThe Home of Star Trek.\u201d This has been a busy week for streamers selling shelved projects to other platforms.
