Developer Psyonix announced Tuesday that peer transactions will be removed from the title on December 5 at 4PM PST. The beloved feature added a game-outside-the-game element as players sought trade partners, often using third-party websites to find suitable swaps. Psyonix says it will consider those sites \u201cfraudulent\u201d moving forward.<\/p>\n<p>Psyonix wrote that the decision was based on parent company Epic Games\u2019 <a data-i13n=\"elm:context_link;elmt:doNotAffiliate;cpos:1;pos:1\" class=\"no-affiliate-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.epicgames.com\/help\/en-US\/rocket-league-c5719357623323\/gameplay-c7262179951387\/trading-for-money-and-outside-trading-with-rocket-league-a5720152151963\" data-original-link=\"https:\/\/www.epicgames.com\/help\/en-US\/rocket-league-c5719357623323\/gameplay-c7262179951387\/trading-for-money-and-outside-trading-with-rocket-league-a5720152151963\">cosmetics policies<\/a>, which ban sales and only allow in-game trades. \u201cWe\u2019re making this change to align with Epic\u2019s overall approach to game cosmetics and item shop policies, where items aren\u2019t tradable, transferrable, or sellable,\u201d the <a data-i13n=\"elm:context_link;elmt:doNotAffiliate;cpos:2;pos:1\" class=\"no-affiliate-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.rocketleague.com\/news\/removing-playertoplayer-trading-in-december\/\" data-original-link=\"https:\/\/www.rocketleague.com\/news\/removing-playertoplayer-trading-in-december\/\">announcement blog post<\/a> reads. However, Psyonix hints at the game\u2019s automobiles appearing in other titles. \u201cThis opens up future plans for some <em>Rocket League<\/em> vehicles to come to other Epic games over time, supporting cross-game ownership.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><span id=\"end-legacy-contents\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The fan response on social media was swift and fierce. \u201cThey really want this game to die, huh,\u201d <a data-i13n=\"elm:context_link;elmt:doNotAffiliate;cpos:3;pos:1\" class=\"no-affiliate-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.reddit.com\/r\/RocketLeague\/comments\/174q80e\/removing_playertoplayer_trading_in_december\/\" data-original-link=\"https:\/\/www.reddit.com\/r\/RocketLeague\/comments\/174q80e\/removing_playertoplayer_trading_in_december\/\">wrote<\/a> u\/DshadoW10 on Reddit. \u201cThis is absolute bs,\u201d added u\/MuskratAtWork. \u201cStill z e r o communication or care for the community at all. Just a cash grab at this point. All [they] care about is selling product and items and no care at all for the health of gameplay or the community.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Users on X (formerly Twitter) weren\u2019t exactly thrilled either:<\/p>\n<div id=\"4ef523df259440738d1688f8ef4bb7de\">\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">i thank god every day that I&#8217;m at least not this brain dead<\/p>\n<p>\u2014 \u064b (@Volterohh) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/Volterohh\/status\/1711799232984731868?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">October 10, 2023<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote><\/div>\n<p>Psyonix <a data-i13n=\"cpos:4;pos:1\" href=\"https:\/\/www.engadget.com\/2019-08-07-rocket-league-loot-crates-psyonix-epic-games.html\">removed loot boxes<\/a> from <em>Rocket League<\/em> in 2019 after many of gaming\u2019s most prominent companies <a data-i13n=\"cpos:5;pos:1\" href=\"https:\/\/www.engadget.com\/2019-08-07-sony-microsoft-nintendo-loot-box-odds.html\">agreed to disclose the odds<\/a> of receiving rare items. The (not quite) loot boxes <a data-i13n=\"cpos:6;pos:1\" href=\"https:\/\/www.engadget.com\/2019-10-01-rocket-league-loot-crate-replacement-blueprints-credits-cosmetics.html\">returned later that year<\/a> with a more transparent design. At the time, Psyonix and Epic said items from post-game drops <a data-i13n=\"cpos:7;pos:1\" href=\"https:\/\/www.engadget.com\/2019-11-05-rocket-league-blueprints-more-details.html\">were still tradable<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Epic Games, which <a data-i13n=\"cpos:8;pos:1\" href=\"https:\/\/www.engadget.com\/2019-05-01-epic-buys-psyonix.html\">bought Psyonix<\/a> in 2019, recently <a data-i13n=\"cpos:9;pos:1\" href=\"https:\/\/www.engadget.com\/epic-games-is-laying-off-16-percent-of-its-workforce-and-selling-bandcamp-211830580.html\">laid off 16 percent of its workforce<\/a>. \u201cThis was a survival move that was necessary,\u201d CEO Tim Sweeney said of the company\u2019s \u201cfinancial problems,\u201d which began over the summer.
