(credit: Harebrained Schemes \/ Paradox Interactive)<\/p>\n<\/figure>\n<div><a name=\"page-1\" \/><\/div>\n<p class=\"has-line-data\" data-line-start=\"2\" data-line-end=\"3\"><em>Lamplighters League<\/em> is a modern<em><a href=\"https:\/\/arstechnica.com\/gaming\/2016\/02\/xcom-2-review-best-in-class-tactical-battles-with-a-new-sense-of-style\/\"> XCOM<\/a><\/em>-style turn-based strategy game with a Weird War-ish, <em>Indiana Jones<\/em>-like feel, a light stealth element, and it\u2019s made by the folks who made <a href=\"https:\/\/arstechnica.com\/gaming\/2018\/05\/battletech-review-learning-to-deal-with-loss-and-profit\/\"><em>Battletech<\/em><\/a> and the <em>Shadowrun Returns<\/em> series. If you pay for Game Pass, or you see this game at any price that feels reasonable (including its debut $50), that should tell you enough about whether to try it. I think you should.<\/p>\n<p class=\"has-line-data\" data-line-start=\"4\" data-line-end=\"5\">I wanted to get that out of the way because I have some nits to pick with <em>Lamplighters League<\/em>, some technical and some tactical. But I don\u2019t want to lose sight of how excited I am to have a meaty new tactics game to sink into, especially one based on an original, if heavily referential, world. If you\u2019re a fan of tile-based movements, two actions per turn, home bases full of upgrade potential, and engaging little interactions between your troops, you don\u2019t get that many solid games like this per year, so take note of <em>Lamplighters League<\/em>.
