The changes makes Twitter<a data-i13n=\"cpos:1;pos:1\" href=\"https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/technology\/twitter-becomes-first-social-media-platform-allow-cannabis-ads-us-2023-02-15\/\"><ins> the first<\/ins><\/a> major social media platform to welcome cannabis ads within the United States.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cGoing forward, Twitter is allowing advertisers to promote brand preference and informational cannabis-related content for CBD, THC, and cannabis-related products and services,\u201d the company<a data-i13n=\"cpos:2;pos:1\" href=\"https:\/\/business.twitter.com\/en\/blog\/twitter-cannabis-ads-policy-changes.html\"><ins> announced<\/ins><\/a> in a blog post.<\/p>\n<p><span id=\"end-legacy-contents\" \/><\/p>\n<p>While the change will allow companies that sell cannabis products to advertise their businesses, there will still be some <a data-i13n=\"cpos:3;pos:1\" href=\"https:\/\/business.twitter.com\/en\/help\/ads-policies\/ads-content-policies\/drugs-and-drug-paraphernalia.html\"><ins>restrictions<\/ins><\/a> on what can appear in the advertisements. As <em>Axios <\/em><a data-i13n=\"cpos:4;pos:1\" href=\"https:\/\/www.axios.com\/2023\/02\/15\/twitter-cannabis-advertising-elon-musk\"><ins>points out<\/ins><\/a>, the ads can\u2019t directly \u201cpromote or offer the sale of cannabis\u201d with the exception of certain CBD products. There are also age and location-related restrictions that limit who can be targeted with cannabis-related ads.<\/p>\n<p>The change is the latest way that Twitter has shaken up its rules under Elon Musk\u2019s leadership in order to allow content that was once barred. The policy update also comes at a time when many advertisers have either <a data-i13n=\"cpos:5;pos:1\" href=\"https:\/\/www.engadget.com\/twitter-advertisers-media-finances-185425994.html\"><ins>fled<\/ins><\/a> the platform or <a data-i13n=\"cpos:6;pos:1\" href=\"https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/technology\/heres-what-twitter-lost-advertising-revenue-final-months-2022-2023-01-19\/\"><ins>significantly reduced <\/ins><\/a>how much they\u2019re spending.
