Jack Dorsey has waded into<\/a> the Twitter Files discourse. Writing in a newsletter, Dorsey lightly criticizes the manner the files have been released, and condemned attacks on former Twitter executives.<\/p>\n

\u201cI continue to believe there was no ill intent or hidden agendas, and everyone acted according to the best information we had at the time,\u201d Dorsey wrote. \u201cAs for the files, I wish they were released Wikileaks-style, with many more eyes and interpretations to consider. There\u2019s nothing to hide\u2026only a lot to learn from.\u201d<\/p>\n

The response is the first time the former CEO has addressed the \u201cTwitter Files\u201d in detail. The disclosures detail some of the company\u2019s internal deliberations surrounding controversial decisions, like Donald Trump\u2019s suspension and Twitter\u2019s handling of a New York Post <\/em>story about Hunter Biden\u2019s laptop. However, the \u201cfiles\u201d have only been made available to a handful of individuals, who have only published snippets of Slack messages, emails, and screenshots from Twitter\u2019s internal tools. The underlying documents have not been released widely, or provided to other media outlets.<\/p>\n

Notably, Dorsey also addressed the ongoing harassment of former Twitter executives. \u201cThe current attacks on my former colleagues could be dangerous and doesn\u2019t solve anything,\u201d he wrote. \u201cIf you want to blame, direct it at me and my actions, or lack thereof.\u201d CNN<\/em>reported<\/ins><\/a> Monday that Yoel Roth, Twitter\u2019s former Trust & Safety head, had \u201cfled his home\u201d after a surge in violent threats against him.<\/p>\n

Interestingly, Dorsey doesn\u2019t mention Musk by name in his lengthy post. Dorsey had once said<\/ins><\/a> that \u201cElon is the singular solution I trust\u201d for Twitter, though it\u2019s unclear if he still feels that way. Dorsey, whose personal email was made public in the original installment of the Twitter Files, didn\u2019t respond when asked if he stands by the statement.<\/p>\n

As with other recent statements from Dorsey, he also shares lots of ideas about how content moderation should work \u2014 namely that algorithms should be used in favor of \u201ca centralized system \u2014 and his hopes for an \u201copen protocol\u201d that could \u201cmake social media a native part of the internet.\u201d And he revealed that he intends to give messaging app Signal $1 million a year as part of an effort to fund companies working on such protocols.<\/p>\n
