Akihabara News (Tokyo) \u2014 Financing has been secured for the 112MW offshore wind farm in Ishikari Bay, Hokkaido, which includes plans to install the first 8MW offshore wind turbines in Japan.<\/p>\n
The turbines will be supplied by Siemens Gamesa. The SG 8.0-167 DD offshore turbines are designed to comply with all standards related to the withstanding of typhoons and earthquakes, as well as the harsh climate of the Hokkaido seas.<\/p>\n
Development of the Ishikari Offshore Wind Farm will be led by Pattern Energy Group and its Japanese affiliate, Green Power Investment (GPI). Financial support for construction will be provided by MUFG Bank, Sumitomo Mitsui Banking Corporation (SMBC), Sumitomo Mitsui Trust Bank, Mizuho Bank, Development Bank of Japan, Societe Generale, and Shinsei Bank.<\/p>\n
Mike Garland, CEO of Pattern Energy, declared, \u201cThis historic project is Japan\u2019s largest combined offshore wind and power storage facility and the first installation of an 8MW offshore wind turbine in the country. Together with GPI, we have built an in-house team of leading experts in onshore and offshore wind and the Ishikari project is the culmination of more than fifteen years of planning.\u201d<\/p>\n
The Ishikari wind farm, including its battery storage component, is expected to begin commercial operation in December of 2023.<\/p>\n
The project has a twenty-year power purchase agreement with Hokkaido Electric Power Company (Hokuden) for 100% of its power output.<\/p>\n
